MINI COUNTRYMAN WRC

2011

This is the car that Dani Sordo drove at Rally GB in 2011.

In 2009, Prodrive set about developing a generic design for new World Rally Car regulations that were changing in 2011. At that point, Prodrive did not have a particular car in mind, but would modify the design to suit. When Prodrive discovered that MINI was launching a new car called the Countryman that would meet the regulations’ new criteria, the MINI Countryman WRC was born.

The car was immediately competitive with Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo debuting the car on Rally Italy in Sardinia in 2011. At Rally France later that year, Dani Sordo narrowly missed out on the car’s debut win coming second by just six seconds. Further podiums followed in Germany and then at Monte Carlo in 2012, which was to be the car’s last outing as a full works programme.

Prodrive continue to compete with car in the WRC in 2012 and manufactured 28 cars, the majority of which were sold to customers. The MINI RX evolved from the MINI WRC in 2013 and won on its debut with Liam Doran in the X Games Munich,  in 2013.
