FORD MONDEO
SUPER TOURING CAR
2000
This is the car that Alain Menu drove to victory in the 2000 British Touring Car Championship. It won six races that year and the dominance of the team saw Anthony Reid and Rickard Rydell take second and third places respectively.
Prodrive ran Ford Team Mondeo in the British Touring Car Championship in 1999 and 2000. In 1999, Prodrive carried out all the chassis development work with the engine supplied by Cosworth.
In 2000, Prodrive took over the entire package with a redesigned engine, which gave the additional performance needed to dominate the championship. By this point British Touring Cars were amongst the most highly engineered racing cars in the world, with engines that needed preheating before they could be started and sophisticated aerodynamics. Indeed the budgets had become so large that 2000 was the last year that these Super Touring Cars would compete with new regulations introduced to reduce costs. As a result, the car in the display is still the fastest ever British Touring Car.
